3 Essential Oils to Set Intentions for the New Year

A happy and healthy new year to you!

I am so happy to see you in this little space. If you’re here, you are probably intrigued to know which essential oils can help you set the tone for the year and are wonderful to help you manifest those intentions. Great!

Personally, I do not do new year’s resolution. But I have a word for the year that I would like to center my actions around: peace.

Peace in my home, for my family, in my marriage, and in my mind.

It’s a big year for us over here (more on that in another post), and, therefore, I was inspired to share:

3 Essential Oils to Help You Set Intentions for 2023

These are also essential oils I keep handy year round. I love their aroma and for what they do especially on an emotional level. And this is what this post is mainly focused on. Ready?

Let’s see which essential oils you should reach for to clear your mind, manifest intentions and goals, all while finding inner peace as you envision the year ahead of you.

Frankincense (Boswellia Sacra)

The holy oil, Frankincense essential oil (Boswellia sacra) is a wonderful oil to have handy if you are in need of letting go of heartache(s) from the last year. Use this earthy, slightly woody smelling essential oil to re-center and turn inward. If you are dealing with anger and/or exhaustion (from the previous holiday season, for instance), Frankincense is your friend. Also, feeling down, rather emotional, and/or overwhelmed, and/or depressed (winter months…hello)? Reach for your bottle of Frankincense essential oil to help you balance, check in with your heart, and ground.

Ylang Ylang (Cananga Odorata)

Ylang Ylang essential oil (Cananga odorata) has an exotic, sweet and almost sensual aroma. Use this oil to shake that irritability and ignite confidence. Put (old) insecurity aside by using Ylang Ylang to help create a calm, yet uplifted state of mind. This essential oil can also be very helpful for especially us women during the time of the month, as it supports a more balanced mood. If you need to work through grief and gain a more optimistic outlook on life, reach for your bottle of Ylang Ylang. Use it also to inspire creativity to work on those next steps to achieve the goals you set for yourself this year.

Rosemary (Rosmarinus Officinalis)

Reach for your Rosemary essential oil (Rosmarinus officinalis) to combat exhaustion and burnout and trade this in for new energy, ready to take on this new year. With its fresh and vibrant, herbaceous aroma, Rosemary essential oil can support mental clarity, especially when having to make decisions and feeling rather confused or overwhelmed. It has cleansing properties and is, hence, helpful when in need of change and letting go of fears. It inspires creativity and, simultaneously, supports courage to take that next step.

How to Use These Essential Oils Easily and Effectively

The easiest way to benefit from these essential oils is diffusing. Depending on your room size (always keep it well ventilated), put 2-6 drops of essential oil(s) in a diffuser with water. You can use a single oil or mix as you like.

You can also inhale the essential oil straight from the bottle.

Alternatively, make a roll-on. Use a 10ml roller top bottle, fill it with 4-7 drops of essential oil, and top off with carrier oil of choice. I prefer sweet almond or jojoba oil. Fractionated coconut oil is also a good choice. Apply to neck, behind ears, on wrists - close eyes and breathe in.

Here is to an inspired, prosperous and especially peaceful new year.
