Hipmunk Hotels: Getaway to the Northeast Coast Including Elmhurst and Brooklyn

The New England states are rich in history and particularly a gem come Indian summer. This area generally has a very European climate but in winter, temperatures can really drop way below 30 degrees. Although it’s off-season then, winter sports fans can enjoy themselves. Boston, Massachusetts’ capital, is the region’s cultural and economic hub attracting many of visitors throughout the year. But what other cities are worth seeing? Here is a selection of the popular and maybe not so famous cities and areas at North America’s northeastern coast.

Long Island City

Technically not one of the group of New England states but still part of the larger northeast region, Long Island city is a destination for beach lovers who also seek an urban atmosphere. Also, a big plus is the city’s proximity to the Big Apple. Stay in the central area to get the best for your buck; if you stay in the Best Western Plaza Hotel or Quality Inn, you pay less than $70 per night but are still close to major sights such as Rockaway Brewing Company or MoMa PS1.

This part of New York’s borough of Queens is not only culturally diverse, but also a comparatively nice place to stay. Undoubtedly, hotels in Elmhurst are more affordable than in downtown New York City; rates start at around $100 per night, for example at the Comfort Inn La Guardia Airport. Yet, it’s only about a 30-minute drive from the Big Apple. Check out the City Hall or many galleries in Chelsea that can be reached by foot. La Guardia Airport is also just around the corner.

Located in New England’s state Rhode Island, Newport is specifically charming during the summer months. If money is tight, try traveling off-season. There will be many discounted rates, such as for the superior hotel Fourty 1 North, which leaves more bucks for activities and attractions such as the Tennis Hall of Fame or Touro Synagogue. Or how about exploring Newport by Segway? Historical ghost tours are also an option.

Woburn, a picturesque city in Massachusetts, is only a few miles away from Boston. Here, you get a small-town feel at its finest and the airport is right around the corner and New England’s hub nearby. The Crowne Plaza Boston - Woburn or the Comfort Inn Woburn are comparatively affordable options. You’re not far from the New England Aquarium or Boston’s famous Freedom Trail and, for instance.

Being one of New York’s five boroughs, Brooklyn might be one of the most popular ones not only featuring the Brooklyn Bridge, but it is also home to trendy, artsy Williamsburg or cozy Cobble Hill. If you’re looking for accommodations, consider traveling in late autumn or even winter, as room rates will drop during these times. For a low-key stay, choose Kings Hotel starting at $90 per night and to be found in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park area; for something a little more upscale, choose the Pointe Plaza Hotel, for example.
