Memorial Day 2018
As I am writing this, I am sitting outside in my parents' backyard, birds twittering, enjoying the fact that I made it to Germany (this journey was a little rough this time, but more on that in a following post).
Today, I just wanted to share with you some impressions from this year's Memorial Day.
This is a very patriotic holiday here in the U.S. We remember those that gave all. We honor those men and women that have served in the military and given their lives to protect the freedom of the country I am proud to call home as a permanent resident (for now - that journey is not over yet).
The last Monday in May, the majority of people had off. A very large ceremony was taking place at Ft. Rosecrans Cemetery here in San Diego. The biggest military cemetery besides Arlington Virginia. It is a very emotional ceremony. Personally, we did not attend this year, but it's a big deal.
Usually, people that have off spend the day with family and - if the weather is nice - BBQ.
We started our day, a hot one, with a little hike at Mission Trails Regional Park to get some energy out of our two furry friends. This year, Rickey had the day off (not always a given), and so we enjoyed our quality time together.
Back home, we relaxed and prepped for a little BBQ session with our friends and their newborn. It was also nice to get together given the fact that they will be moving to the east coast shortly.
And so we spent the afternoon and early evening grilling, eating, chatting, and being merry.
A good, solid day. And while we enjoyed our freedom, we remembered those who fought for it and gave their lives.
If you celebrated Memorial Day: How did you experience it?
